Forest Health

Here, in the largest Ponderosa Pine forest on the continent, we are well aware of the problems our forests are facing concerning general health and sustainability. Logging of forests, as well as forest fire suppression have led to tree overcrowding and thick underbrush, which decreases forest health and increases risk of fire. These changes are extensive and rapid, often within one generation of tree growth, and have a tendency to reduce diversity in plants and wildlife. The Forest Service and other groups are challenged with the task of expensive tree thinning and burning projects to decrease fire hazards and increase forest health. Unfortunately, these thinned trees frequently go to waste and are seen as a detriment rather than a resource. Wood pellet fuels provide a viable sustainable heating supply that can easily be attained from this often-wasted wood.
