Volunteer Opportunities : Positions

Current list of volunteer positions at The Arboretum of Flagstaff

In addition to these positions, we also need docent and wildlife program volunteers.

Horticulture Center: Greenhouse maintenance and plant propagation

Function: Watering, pruning, seeding flats, potting plants, cleaning seeds, record keeping, and general cleanup. We also need help collecting seeds and cuttings from the gardens for propagation purposes and creating signage.

Gardens: Maintenance and planting

Function: Pruning, weeding, watering, fertilizing, insect and disease control, soil preparation, drainage control, installation of irrigation systems and planting.

Research: Seed collection and data gathering

Function: Go on field trips to collect seeds throughout the season; gather data from ongoing experiments on threatened and endangered plants. Work may involve taking measurements on plants, hand-pollinating flowers, germinating seed, preparing test plots, transplanting plants, and recording survival data.

Visitor Services: General assistance

Function: Help with reception (phone and in person), admissions, gift shop sales, cashiering, restocking, re-shelving and other department projects. Help during special events. Answer questions about the Arboretum and its flora.

Facilities: Routine maintenance

Function: Painting, carpentry, irrigation maintenance, etc.

Special Events: Assist with large public events

Function: Event set up, parking cars, greeting visitors, face painting, craft activities, selling drinks, gift shop assistance, etc.

Education: School Trips and Summer Camps

Function: Lead games, activities, and help provide assistance for programming during school field-trips or 6 weeks of summer camp (June - July) for children ages 5-12. Most of your time spent will be outdoors.
