General Tour of Gardens

Docents are available to lead 45 min. to 1-hour tours that meander through 25 acres of cultivated gardens, around the pond and into a working greenhouse.  Topics covered include The Arboretum’s mission, the importance of landscaping with native plants, propagation of drought tolerant plants and the ecosystems of the Colorado Plateau.  (Included with the price of admission.)

Nature Trail

The nature trail takes visitors on a loop through natural ponderosa pine forest and along a meadow.  Signage along the way explains about the plants and animals found in Ponderosa Pine forests.  The 1.5-mile loop is an easy walk on a well-defined, yet natural surface.  It can be taken as a self-guided tour or will a docent leader. (Included with the price of admission.)

Picnic Facilities

The Arboretum has an outdoor picnic area that can accommodate large groups.  We have drinks and snacks available in our gift shop, but no other food services.  Catered meals can be arranged or outside food can be brought in.

Raptor Program

Rehabilitators from High Country Raptors are able to give 45 min. to 1-hour presentations on live birds of prey.  This environmental education program focuses on the importance of these birds in our ecosystem.  Depending on the time of year, presenter can provide on-the fist or free-flight programs.  Birds may include kestrels, hawks, falcons, and owls.  (Additional flat fee of $100)

Navajo Uses of Native Plants Program

This special 1 to 1.5 hour ethnobotany tour focuses on the native plants used by Navajo people for food, medicine, household and ceremonial purposes.  Visitors will tour the gardens with a focus on the plants that are important to the Navajo culture.  The tour concludes in a meeting room where the presenter explains how the plants are prepared for use.  (Additional flat fee of $50)
