Spring 2008 Gardening Classes
Arboretum Gardens Department staff will share successful gardening techniques
in the 2008 series of half-day gardening classes. To register, call (928)

Water Features in the Garden
Saturday, May 3 - 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Learn about the basic components of garden water features. View
and discuss examples of different types of ponds and fountains. The class
will conclude with a hands-on construction project for a small water feature
appropriate for a home garden.
Instructor: Nathan McLeod, Gardens Manager
$25 fee for members, $30 fee for non-members.

Beginning Plant Propagation
Saturday, May 3 - 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Discover basic techniques used to propagate native plants of the Colorado
Plateau. Participants will learn how Arboretum horticulturists grow plants
sexually and asexually. Participants in this hands-on workshop will leave
with several "starts" for use in their home garden.
Instructor: Hanna Raiter, Horticulturist
$25 fee for members, $30 fee for non-members.
Gardening Through the Seasons
Saturday, May 17 - 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Have you ever wondered, "When is the best time to weed or mulch?" If
you want to know how to keep your garden looking its best, this class is for
you. The morning will be spent visiting The Arboretum gardens discussing
examples of routine garden maintenance, time-saving techniques, consequence of
diligent work and a timetable for seasonal chores. Participants will leave with
a plan for the year.

Pruning Workshop
Saturday, May 17 - 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Participants will learn why and how to prune woody plants in the
home landscape. The focus is on pruning native trees and shrubs of the
Colorado Plateau for health and aesthetics. Learn important methods and
timing to ensure the best results. This class is an excellent complement to the
class "Gardening Through the Seasons".
Instructor: Brian Keeley, Director of Gardens and Facilities
