200 Acres of Environmental Education

Summer Adventure Program 2009

The Arboretum is a wonderful place for children to explore nature in a variety of habitats, including wetlands, forests, cultivated gardens and meadows.

The 2009 Summer Adventure Programs not only explore plants, but also birds and other animals in the gardens and forest.  Children will embark on a different adventure each week where they will observe and learn about a variety of natural habitats, make crafts, play games, and enjoy a healthy snack as part of their visit.

All summer camps are limited in size, with two adult leaders to ensure high quality programming.

We urge you to register early.  Receipt of full payment will guarantee a place in each program.

4-5 YEAR-OLDS & 6-7 YEAR-OLDS

Half-day environmental exploration camps are designed especially for preschoolers and early-elementary aged children.  Programs for each age group take place simultaneously so that siblings can participate with their peers at the same time.  Each summer camp is led by a professional educator with experience working with the age groups listed, as well as a trained adult assistant.  Michelle Galloway will lead the 4-5 year old camps and Jamie MacKenzie will lead the 6-7 year old camps. There will be a maximum of 12 participants in each group.  Five sessions are offered each week which last 3.5 hours.  Children will spend the majority of their time outside in the gardens, wetlands, forest, and meadow.

This year there are two themes offered each week.  Your child can come twice per week or stay the whole day on Wednesday for the morning and afternoon session.  Campers who stay all day on Wednesdays can bring their own sack lunch and eat with staff at lunchtime.
